The motherboard is the main circuit board for most computers and PC. It's also referred to as the mainboard, logic board, or system board. The main purpose of the mother board is to allow communication between the CPU, RAM, and other computer components. This makes the motherboard an essential part of the PC as without it links between the components could completely break down. It uses a combination of sockets and slots to connect each component together to work in unison. The main two components that make up a motherboard is the RAM and the CPU (for more information I have posted about these two in a previous blog post).
The motherboard is often seen as the backbone of the PC. However, there are many variations to these motherboards. Some may have a larger size or accommodate more components based on space available. For example, and motherboard in a desktop is often socketed for easy replacement while for laptops and smartphones its motherboard is often soldered making replacement much more difficult.
The production of motherboards has come to develop in many ways. While innovation continues to grow with time manufactures often have to categorize the motherboards as variations continues to be produced with a difference in size, shape and capabilities.
the mini STX motherboard is often known as the mini socket technology extended. the motherboard only has a dimension of 5.8 inches to 5.5 inches. This often led to people calling the motherboard a 5 by 5 which is quite misleading to the average user. The mini ITX is an older model developed in the 2000s it measures 17 by 17 cm it uses less power than its predecessors and often have a quicker cooling compacity. In order to identify which, type of motherboard your computer or Pc has its suggested to look at the computer's specs.
